Janet Ferguson
MCSP MPH
Janet initially qualified as a chartered physiotherapist. Later her career included the marketing and service development of UK based private healthcare services. In 1994 she became health commissioning manager in British Forces Germany (BFG) following the closure of British military hospitals. This required the modeling of a completely new health service. As the role evolved, the focus shifted to public health issues and she became involved in the more detailed planning of population health amongst the military and associated civilian community. It was during this time that she became interested in telemedicine and e health and how it could reduce inequalities in health by improving the medical support in the more remote British communities based in Germany. Janet went on to study at Glasgow University and graduated with an MPH, in October 2000 and then worked on two health promotion evaluation research jobs; the health demonstration project evaluation of ‘Have a Heart Paisley’ and the national evaluation of smoking cessation in England. Janet has now been working with the Modernising Healthcare Partnership for 5 years. She has a special interest in home and community based management of people with long term conditions, ‘smart’ working for more efficient and effective working and innovative commissioning across communities such as SPMS.
